Mattapan trolley line to reopen this weekend
December 20, 2007
By Globe Staff
MBTA officials say the Mattapan Trolley Line, which connects the Ashmont
and Mattapan stations, will reopen Saturday after being closed almost 18
months ago.
The line was closed -- and buses were provided as an alternative --
because of work at the Ashmont and Mattapan stations. The six stations
between Ashmont and Mattapan have also been getting an upgrade. Riders
will see some of the new features on Saturday; others will be added as
work on the project continues through the spring.
Dan Grabauskas, general manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation
Authority, thanked the residents of the Dorchester and Mattapan
neighborhoods of Boston and the adjacent town of Milton for their patience
during the line's closure.
"With the difficult work behind us, we can resume trolley service and
still continue with additional work along the line," he said in a
statement.
