I'd like to address Charlie Tuttle's Oct. 19 message (please see below)
about the Sat. morning, Sept. 27, cleanup of the Neponset River planned for
the area adjacent to the Central Ave. bridge over the river between Milton
and Mattapan.
It is NepRWA's understanding that removing debris from the river during this
event will not pose a danger to participants' health. Because of the nature
of water flow through this area, NepRWA doesn't consider it to be a
PCB-deposition area. Additionally, participants will be taking precautions
against making excessive skin contact with the water and mud; they will be
wearing waders and boots, long pants, long sleeves and gloves. We will also
advise all participants to wash off their gear before using it again.
For more detailed information about this site and others along the Lower
Neponset River, please feel free to contact NepRWA at 781-575-0354 and ask
for Executive Director Ian Cooke.

Hi Rosanne
Has the PCB issue been considered with respect to the area of the cleanup?

DORCHESTER/MATTAPAN COMMUNITY BIKE OPEN HOUSE
Tuesday October 24, 2007
Viet-Aid Great Hall, 42 Charles St.
7 p.m.
DORCHESTER REPORTER
18 October 2007
Bike summit to hold session in Fields Corner
Boston?s new bicycle coordinator, Nicole Freedman, is holding a bike
summit early next week to build a foundation for the city?s burgeoning
bike plans. Several events are open to the public, including a community
session near Fields Corner at the Viet-Aid Great Hall, 42 Charles St. It
begins at 7 p.m.
A substantial part of the session, according to the Mayor?s office, will
offer opportunities for community input into just what kind of bike
amenities Dorchester?s cyclists would like to see in their neighborhood.
The rest of the three-day long summit?s schedule presents state and
regional bike plans, a biking-based discussion of world-class cities, a
discussion about how biking contributes to economic development and
more. Many of the events are being hosted at City Hall downtown. For up
to date information see bostonbikessummit.info.

Dear Friend of the Neponset,
Does your blood BOIL at the sight of the Neponset River lined with rusty
grocery carts and bikes, car tires and old plastic bags? Well, it's time
to take action.
Join us as we REMOVE this garbage from the river at 9:30AM on Saturday,
October 27. We'll meet at the Central Ave. bridge on the border of Milton
and Mattapan. Here is a hyperlink to a map of the site; feel free to
Google directions:

Please bring the following, if you have them:
Energy!
Rubber Boots
Waders
Sturdy, Long Rubber Gloves
Rake
Persistence!
Pick
Shovel
Laughter!
Sturdy Garbage Bags
Strong Rope
Warm Clothes
With your help, we'll pull a variety of debris from the river banks and
from the river itself. We'll work until about noon, transferring the
garbage onto the shoulder of the Neponset Greenway trail for the Milton
Department of Public Works to pick up and dispose of. Please remember to
wear protective clothing; the water and river-bottom sediment in this
segment of the Neponset River are not pristine.
Please RSVP by Thurs., Oct. 25, to Carly at rocklen at neponset.org or
781-575-0354. RSVPs are appreciated but not required. We look forward to
seeing you!
