Hello, Friends of EarthWorks,
This is a heads-up that EarthWorks will be featured on WUMB's "Commonwealth
Journal" broadcast this coming Sunday, February 10, at both 7:30 am and 7:00
pm.
Our Urban Forestry & Urban Orchards Programs Director Ben Crouch and I were
interviewed by CJ's host, Janis Pryor, a few weeks ago in their UMass-Boston
studio. Our conversation covered urban orchards, environmental justice, how
to get youth and kids interested in nature in the city, the role of trees in
keeping cities habitable, etc. Our interview lasted nearly an hour, but I
think the broadcast piece will be 7-10 minutes long...it'll be interesting
to all of us to hear the edited version!
The program can be heard on WUMB Radio, 91.9 FM in Boston, Worcester and
Cape Cod, and on 91.7FM in Newburyport. Other stations air "Commonwealth
Journal" on other days and times; you can consult
www.commonwealthjournal.org to learn their other call numbers and program
schedules, etc.
Here's more on the program itself (from the radio station):
Commonwealth Journal is an award winning, weekly, half-hour public affairs
radio program that discusses topics of particular interest to
Massachusettslisteners through an exploration of
Massachusetts culture, history, politics, art and science.
Segments may be about farming in New England, family ritual and consumer
culture, what students are doing at the state's science fair, Boston's
Haitian community, or the cleaning of the Charles River. Commonwealth
Journal also looks at the people and events of Massachusetts past, such as
the life of Charles Sumner, Massachusetts' anti-slavery Senator; King
Phillip's War; the lives and times of McLean Hospital; the story behind
Massachusetts' diners; or, a discussion about the history of marriage.
Commonwealth Journal informs the state's residents about those stories that
have shaped the state and its people, while providing a
Massachusettsperspective to issues of national and international
concern.
Commonwealth Journal has won First Place Public Service program awards and
Public Affairs program awards from the Associated Press of Massachusetts &
Rhode Island, Silver Microphone Awards, the Massachusetts Broadcasters
Association, the American Cancer Society and the Agricultural Communicators
in Education. The program also won a second place national award from the
Public Radio News Directors Association.
If you can't tune in this Sunday, we have copies of the program on CD in our
office; we are also going to put it up on our website in the next few weeks.
Thanks for your support, and thanks for listening!
Take care,
Christine
