Volunteer to Pick Fruit with us and support City Fruit!
Dear EarthWorks Supporter,
This summer, we are proud to introduce a new project to promote our
trademark program, Urban Orchards. We believe that fruit trees are a
great tool to help solve many urban and global problems. By planting
and caring for fruit trees, Urban Orchards is providing high quality
nutrition to undernourished city residents, environmental benefits like
cleaner air and water, beautifying neighborhoods, and creating
opportunities for learning and the experience of food growing close to
home. Through the City Fruit project, we are working with partners such
as Haley House Bakery Café, Hyde Square Task Force and Food Project to
improve and distribute the harvest from our orchards. The City Fruit
brand is being used to identify fruit and products containing fruit
from our urban orchards.
In addition, throughout the summer of 2008, we will be working with JP
Licks to make EarthWorks flavors of their products with fruit from our
urban orchards . This is a great promotional opportunity for our new
City Fruit program. In addition, proceeds from the sales will benefit
our Urban Orchards program.
We need your help to make it happen. We need volunteers to pick fruit
that will be used to make the JP Licks sorbet and ice cream. The first
flavor will be a sour cherry sorbet. Sour cherries are almost ready.
Tentative dates for picking include:
June 28 @ 9am
June 30 @ 6pm
July 1 @ 6pm
July 7 @ 6pm
Here is how it works. Sign up for as many dates as you think you can
make yourself available to pick. If the fruit is going to be ripe on
those dates, we will do our best to call you 2 days before the picking.
As a token of our thanks, all volunteers will receive a voucher for a
free cone or dish of a JP Licks EarthWorks flavor and a small portion
of fresh fruit to take home. You must sign up by June 27 in order to
participate.
Please call or email me to sign up . Thanks for your continued interest
and support for EarthWorks.
Sincerely,
Benjamin Crouch
