You are cordially invited to attend Codman Academy's First Energy
Awareness Open Studios!
The tenth graders at Codman Academy Charter Public School have studied
physics this year while also studying the
global energy situation. Some of the topics they have studied this year
and that will be on display in our studios include:
renewable and nonrenewable energy sources,
the greenhouse effect,
global warming,
how we get our electricity,
the environment and our health,
and green buildings.
Please join us on May 27, 2008 from 6-8pm in the Great Hall in Codman
Square to learn about these and other important energy-related topics.
Free CFLs (compact fluorescent light bulbs) will be given out to the first
50 attendees who sign EnergyStar's Change a Light, Change the World?
pledge!

for a late spring evening paddle starting from the newest Neponset launch
at Neponset II Park. Going through the salt marsh up to Lower Mills,
we’ll enjoy this serene setting as twilight approaches.

Who Should Come: This event is suitable for all residential audiences-
designers, builders, homeowners/renters/ consumers, etc.
The objective of this seminar is to introduce concepts of
resource-conserving and environmentally-friendly landscape design and
maintenance practices. Conventional residential landscapes are often
resource-intensive, and some of the maintenance products and practices
typically employed have been associated with adverse long-term health
consequences and environmental impact. Topics covered will include
low-water landscaping or xeriscaping, rainwater collection and use,
advantages of using native plants, more-effective storm water management,
and organic turf and landscape management practices. The seminar will
include a brief discussion of Low Impact Development, green roofs, and
‘hardscaping’ options.
