Councillor At-Large John R. Connolly, Chairman of the Boston City
Council’s Committee on Environment and Health,
is holding a hearing on bisphenol A on Thursday, May 29 at 3 pm, in the
Iannella Chamber on the fifth floor of Boston City Hall.

Docket # 0516 [- from the hearing order]:
To investigate and examine the environmental and health risks to Boston
residents posed by bisphenol A and to consider any appropriate action by
the City.
In a recent study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
an estimated 93% of adults have bisphenol A (BPA) in their bodies, with
infants and children having the highest levels. BPA is found in products
such as medical devices, Tupperware, water and baby bottles, glazing
applications, soda cans, compact disk laminates and soup cans. Recent
studies have found that there are potential environmental and health
hazards associated with BPA. The Canadian government has acted to ban the
sale and importation of baby bottles with BPA; legislation exists in nine
other states relative to BPA in consumer products; additionally, water
bottle maker Nalgene has phased out production of its product lines that
contain BPA.

Members of the public are cordially invited to attend and testify.
If there are others who may be interested in this hearing, kindly notify
them.
